Selva it’s a picturesque town on the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains which create an impressive backdrop to an already attractive little village. It was King Juame II who first classified Selva as a town around 1300, since when it has experienced a colourful history. Recent times have seen Selva prosper as a proud and traditional community. Its isolation and size mean many tour operators, and therefore the tourists themselves, largely overlook it. For anyone searching for a traditional Mallorcan experience, there are few places better. The abundance of character and small village charm makes it a worthwhile excursion for anyone.
Selva is blessed with a privileged location near the mountains, and near the sea, but also an ideal starting point to explore the charming heart of the island with its tiny villages and buzzing farmer markets, the most popular being the Sineu markets each Wednesday, only 30 Km away, and Pollensa on Sundays only 20 Km away.
Surrounded by almonds and olive orchards, the area around Selva, Caimari and Moscari is the most important center of olive oil production on the island, and with this, it has develop in a somehow unexpected gatronomic hub with some of the most renown restaurants like Miceli in Selva, Ca Na Toneta in Caimari, Brut in LLubi, Ses Coves in Campanet and Santi Taura in Lloseta, who unfortunately has moved his restuarant to Palma very recently.
Along with great restaurants, and olive and almond orchards, come vineyards and wineries. Selva is right at the edge of the Binissalem wine country with some of the oldest wineries in Mallorca only a few Km away like Bodega Ribas in Consell, and also one of the most young and innovative like Can Axartell.
CYCLING AROUND SELVA
Its central location it's what make us love Sela so much as a cycling base, offering a great variety of great riding in any direction you go.
Towards the North you´ll find Pollensa and the North Coast with plenty of quiet country roads and great routes like the iconic Cap de Formentor. Heading right into the mountains you have Coll de Sa Bataia one of our favorite climbs on the island, and from there you can carry on North towards Pollensa, or South towards the epic Sa Calobra, and further South into Soller along the cuber and Gorg Blau Lakes and the Puigmajor climb, the highest paved road on the island. To the South you'll be riding along the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains in a constant up and down along gorgeous almond tree orchards and grapevines, and charming little villages with some of our favorite coffee stops, and also up the gorgeous village of Orient. Head East and you'll be surprised by the charming countryside towards the center of the island on beautiful backroads with incredibly good tarmac, a gentle undulating terrain, and the option of some great views heading up the Cura and Sant Salvador climbs.
A little too far from one of our favorite roads on the island along Deia, Banyalbufar and Estellencs, it makes for a great opportunity for a big day out on the bike, and great lunch by the sea after the ride, and shuttle back to the villa. We take care of all these little details so you can just relax, ride and enjoy.
Selva has develop in the last few years as a boutique travel spot and with it there's been a few great little rural bed and breakfasts opening in the area, and some of our favorite restaurants in the island, but it's also a great place to try to hiking, and activities by the sea if you wish.
Hike to the second highest peak in Mallorca, Puig de Massanella, which you can start just up the road near LLuc monastery.
Dine out in some of our favorite restaurants in the island like Miceli in Selva, Ca Na Toneta in Caimari, BRUT in Llubi, or Ses Coves near Campanet.
We could also organize some exhilarating guided activities on the coast like Coasteering, Climbing or Deep Water Soloing, or heading deep into the mountains and do some Canyoning.
Charter a boat for half a day and explore the coast around the Formentor Peninsula or some hidden gems near Port Alcudia.
Visit some of the oldest and traditional wineries in Mallorca like Bodega Ribas, or some of the youngest and most innovative like Can Axartell.
Indulge yourself with a private Yoga class or massage that we can arrange to come to the villa.
